New foyer for the German Stock Exchange in Eschborn
As one of the largest stock exchange organisations in the world, it opens the way for investors, financial institutions and companies to the global capital market: the German Börse.
From 2010 that will change. The seat of the organisation and the floor trading will remain in Frankfurt, but a majority of the staff will move to neighbouring Eschborn, where a new administrative headquarters is currently being built. Roughly half the 2,000 employees will reside in a temporary building in Eschborn until the new one is finally finished. “At the moment, Section 5 of the so-called „Häuser der Mode/Houses of Fashion“ block is being used for this purpose“, says René Walkenhorst from the prestigious Atelier Brückner in Stuttgart, which has been commissioned with the conception, detailed design and construction management of the temporary entrance portal and foyer. “We have implemented the corporate design of the German Börse. The canopy and approach drive give the impression, due to their restyling, of a welcoming gesture to the outside world. Integrity, transparency, modernity and dynamism were the most important brand values for creative implementation. A clear and unambiguous design vocabulary characterises its appearance.”
The results are impressive. Anyone entering the foyer is immediately impressed by the “Light atmosphere and purism“. On both sidewalls, the tensioned illuminated areas prevail, inasmuch as the sideways tensioned fabric is precisely accentuated by the light from the rear-mounted fluorescent lamps. Several quotations from in and around the “Welt der Finanzen/World of Finance“, apply perfectly.
The design is based on EPS.LUMI tensioning technology from the firm EPS Profiled Solutions, which allows flexible tensioning of large areas of printed fabric into nearly any spatial shape. With the aid of EPS.LUMI Corner & Divider, a crease free surface was tensioned on 7 x 6.5 metres in each case. “There were many different solutions, but we were only really convinced by the design of EPS.LUMI, which exactly fulfilled all our requirements. Two decisive advantages: firstly, the large surface area is evenly lit right to the very edge and, secondly, as this concerns a temporary building for the German Börse, we can easily dismantle the structure again without leaving any traces“, is how René Walkenhorst explained the choice of the tensioning technology. When deciding on the design of the outer entrance portal, Atelier Brückner once again decided on the tried and tested LUMI-Profiles from EPS, which were tensioned on the sidewalls to areas of 4 x 6.5 metres and 7.1 x 6.5 metres and are also covered with backlit fabric.
