An eye catcher in the hubbub of the Trade Fair
ALHO Systembau GmbH goes for EPS tensioning technology

It gives the building industry a good fillip and again this year, with a record number of 211,000 visitors and despite the general financial and industrial crisis, it did not allow people to get down in the dumps. The BAU in Munich is without a doubt one of the most important specialised trade shows dealing with architecture, materials, and systems. This is one of the reasons why the exhibitors from 42 nations, with their expensively constructed exhibition stands, vied enthusiastically for the attention of the customers.

One firm, which also scored heavily with its exhibition stand on the theme of Creativity and Effectiveness, was the modular building systems manufacturer ALHO based in Morsbach.  The modern two-storey building, absolutely eye-catching due to its clear and unambiguous design vocabulary, could not be ignored. The 160 qm exhibition stand, designed by the LHVH Architects, Cologne, stood under the slogan “Systembau zum Anfassen/System building to take hold of“ and provided information on the many options offered by the steel module building method. There were four modules from the ALHO “classic line“ series there as special exhibition models, integrated into the exhibition using a particularly exciting method.  By horizontally offsetting the two modules, a complex octagonal configuration was created in the upper storey with very diverse spatial variations, enclosed on all sides and open above. The sidewalls of the exhibition stand were provided with EPS tensioning technology. EPS.LUMI-Profiles ensured a crease-free tensioned surface on the upper and lower floor of the exhibition stand. The main highlight was the fabric used, “FT 381“ from manufacturer Ferrari, which provided a discussion area screened from the outside but which at the same time, was light-permeable from the inside.  “The filter properties of this fabric were really brilliant. Furthermore, the fabric created a fascinating haziness, - the outlines of the activity of the trade fair taking place behind the facade were tremendously effective“, according to enthusiastic project leader Frank Holschbach, who is responsible for the creative execution of the exhibition stand.

In the planning of the exhibition stand, simple alteration of the facade was also important. One could easily react to the different themes of future trade fairs with new colours and a new overprint. Holschbach: “The exhibition stand was planned for a period of 4 to 5 years, i.e. that during this period of time it will be seen at the most diverse of trade fairs. We have decided on the product from EPS Profiled Solutions, as we are well acquainted with them from previous projects. On the one hand we chose EPS tensioning technology in order to take advantage of the simple option of changing the colour and information of the facade by changing the fabric, and on the other hand, as already mentioned, we were playing, with the translucence of the material in certain places. That is how, for instance, the desired visibility with an exciting haziness was produced on the ground floor, which is created by the netted fabric. On the upper floor, the gallery allowed an uninterrupted view of what was going on in the trade fair.
