That certain something in vacuo
EPS.EASY-Profiles "hover" in London
Large and flooded with light is the entrance area of the modern office building of the company Gallaher Group Ltd., a leading British tobacco producer based in London. Who’s stepping over the door sill will be offered an unexpected impression of generosity. “Through the opening of the ceiling to the top floor and the adjoining galleries that certain something was missing in vacuo”, explains Diana Shellcock, one of the 16 employees of the Scottish company Owen Sails that was charged with the creative design of the entrance area.
But how a beautiful and well-lit room can be given the fitting spot of colour or rather get that certain something? The team of Owen Sails, manufacturer of sails for the maritime and architectural use, developed together with the architect Stotoko Katayose and IBEX interiors an idea how the room is given more finesse. Consisting of 3 or 4 circles made of EPS.EASY and wrinkle-free clamped fabric, 10 large colored, transparent cylinders were generated. The airy pillars with diameters between 1 and 2 m were lifted up under the ceiling by using a crane. The result is impressive, because the seemingly weightlessness of the "lampions" match perfectly with the bright well-lit entrance area.
"We are very satisfied with the result of the installation and at the contract award process, we have completely relied on the good name that runs ahead of EPS. Also the good cost effectiveness was a decisive factor for the excellent collaboration", said Diana Shellcock excited. Further projects with EPS are forced in any case. Shellcock: “Every time when a visitor enters the foyer with a wondering and respectful facial expression after looking up, we know that the installation leaves a lasting impression and we have done everything right.”
